Preliminary spawning and larval rearing of the sea cucumber Holothuria sanctori (Delle Chiaje, 1823): A potential aquaculture species

Hatchery production is critical to the successful aquaculture of a species. This study describes first captive breeding and reports on embryonic development early larval stages sea cucumber Holothuria sanctori, species native Mediterranean eastern Atlantic. Various induction methods were applied obtain spawning in adult H. sanctori specimens; gametes obtained from spontaneous event broodstock induced by mechanical shock coupled with algal stimulation. Fertilized eggs then cultured at two different densities (0.3 egg/ml 1 egg/ml) fed microalgae (5 × 103 – 2 104 cells/ml 4 cells/ml) Nannochloropsis sp. Amphora growth was recorded. Embryonic monitored daily basis for one month auricularia registered days 5, 10, 15, 20 after fertilization. The observed up late stage (14 fertilization). best lower egg densities.
